All Clear! All Done! All Lanes are OPEN!
Michigan Avenue in front of Borer Family Chiropractic - November 21, 2016
Here's a recap of the project highlights:
It all started back in April, 2016. The first phase involved widening the road surface, which involved cutting down most of the trees along both sides of Michigan Avenue in downtown Saline, MI. Michigan Ave will go from 4 lanes to 5 lanes.
Road work began first on the South side of the road. Pretty smooth sailing getting in and out of Borer Family Chiropractic during this phase. Main inconvenience was that all traffic on Michigan Ave in downtown Saline was one way - westbound only. To go eastbound one needed to go north or south a block.
Road work on South side of Michigan Ave progressing.
Eventually, the Southside was paved and work switched over to the Northside. Now occasional driveway blockages occurred. The first step was to remove the existing asphalt.
Next step was to remove the concrete layer that was beneath the asphalt.
Next was to dig down to remove and replace all underground utilities including sewage pipes, storm water runoff pipes and main water supply. Pictured here is early excavation in front of our driveway.
Deeper and deeper they dug.
The driveway was definitely out of commission at times. We appreciate everyone that put up with the inconvenience of having to park on a side street or a neighboring parking lot during these brief (usually they were done with the stretch of road in front of our drive within a day or two for each step of the process). So the interruptions were brief - but definitely inconvenient.
Water main and sewage pipes at Borer Family Chiropractic being removed and replaced.
Lots of digging to get to the level needed for sewage pipes and storm water pipes.

Dirt being backfilled once pipes have been installed.
Storm water drain pipes being installed.

Driveway was back open a couple days after they began all the digging.
MDOT did a great job laying in our new drive entry way.
Once everything was nice and level, three layers of asphalt were laid down.
Final finishing touches on our driveway. Everything nice and level and smooth.
Grass was laid down and we got a new tree!
