Whiplash

Treat Whiplash with Chiropractic Care

We all know the scenario — a car sits at a stoplight when suddenly, BAM! the car gets rear-ended, and the driver's head snaps back and then forward. Whiplash happens to most people at least once, though it varies greatly in severity. If you live in the Saline, MI area, getting prompt care is crucial after experiencing any form of whiplash in order to prevent long-term problems. At Borer Family Chiropractic, our chiropractors in Saline are here to answer all of your questions.

.

What is Whiplash?

In a nutshell, whiplash is a neck injury that is caused when the head is suddenly jerked in one direction and then in another. While it is commonly caused by rear-end car accidents, the injury can result from a wide variety of circumstances like sports (especially in football), hard falls, rollercoaster rides, bungee jumping, and more. The injury can cause a strain or damage in the soft tissues around the neck.

When Does Whiplash Require Chiropractic Care?

While many cases of whiplash will eventually get better on their own, others will leave the injured person experiencing long-term or permanent pain. Many people also experience a lack of movement, and more severe cases may result in immobilization of the neck. Others experience ongoing headaches or other body aches as a result. Symptoms may vary, and they may be more or less severe depending on the degree of injury. Our practice typically sees whiplash patients reporting the following symptoms:

  • Neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Pain in the extremities
  • Tingling sensations anywhere in the body
  • Weakened muscle strength
  • Difficulty turning the head or looking in different directions
  • Vision difficulties

Treat the Problem, Not the Symptoms

While it's easy for people to simply help mask their symptoms by taking pain medication or even getting occasional injections that can help with muscle movement, neither of these options will fix the problem long term. Our Saline chiropractors are focused on diagnosing and pinpointing the source of the injury in the neck. Once we do so, we can develop an appropriate treatment plan that may include adjustments and exercises to correct the issue and provide relief for the patient.
