Your 2016 Saline Scarecrow Contest entries had to not only withstand the usual wind, rain and cold conditions to make it to the end of the voting period this year, they also had to negotiate the ever-changing road construction that affected Michigan Avenue and Ann Arbor Street. To help the annual contest not get steamrolled by all the equipment and construction in the downtown area a special "construction" category was created in addition to three special awards.
This year's entries showed an amazing assortment of talent, creativity and artistic expression. Downtown Saline, Michigan has been a joyful, entertaining, fun destination this past October as a result of all the hard work and wonderful energy by all those who put their talents to work in creating their entries for this years contest. A great big thank you and congratulations for your efforts and initiative to everyone that entered.
And now that we have come to the end of the voting period the voters have spoken and we have our winners selected by popular vote. Ribbons have been placed on all the entries to acknowledge their participation in this year's contest. So without further ado... here are your winners!
In the "Individual" category winner with 53 votes was "Jack Skellington" created by Jessica, Tanith and Braden Hohenberger.
The first place winner in the "Group" Category was by Saline Area Girl Scouts Troop 40479 with 148 votes.
The first place winner in the "Small Business" Category was Pear Tree Dental with 1363 votes.
The first place winner in the "Large Business" Category was Saline Lectronics with 435 votes.
And now for the special categories and awards for the 2016 contest.
The First Place Winner for the "Construction" category was "The Three Little Pigs" by Lydia Alig, Laney Alig and Sandy Tilt with 122 votes.
Our first special award for 2016 is the Artistic Award, which was awarded to Maureen's Designs
Our second special award for 2016 was the Hi-Tech Award which was presented to Saline Lectronics for their entry which had eyeballs that lit up with a motion detector all powered by a solar panel - wow!!!
And our third and final special award were the Whimsical Award, which was awarded to Waggles N Whiskers for their young pet owner walking their dog.
